Subject: moving little F chord question

Hi everyone,
I've been playing a few songs on my guitar lately, and I have a
question to ask of experienced players about the playing of the little
F major shape. That's the F chord that is played on the first 4
strings.
When I first started practicing this chord, I had trouble getting all
the notes of the chord to sound. So, I looked around for suggestions,
and it was suggested to me that when barring down the first two
strings with my index finger, that instead of placing the finger down
flat, I should the index finger slightly on it's side, towards the
direction of the headstock.
I went ahead and tried this, and it seems to work well, and I'm able
to play the chord a little bit better than before in that I'm able to
get all the strings to sound when strumming the chord.
Since the little "F' chord is a closed shape, it can be moved up the
fret board, so as to create new chords. Move that shape up one fret,
and you have F#, move it up two, and you have G, and etc.
I was just curious how other players....who just happen to play the
little "F" chord the same way I do at the first fret by rolling the
index finger on its side.....practice the same shape when moving up to
other frets? Is it important to keep rolling the index finger on its
side ....even when it would seem unnecessary at frets that are further
away from the nut?
Something I have noticed is that, as you move up the fret board, there
is less pressure (less than there is at the nut) and it is much easier
to press down a little "F" chord and getting all the strings to sound
WITHOUT rolling the index finger slightly on its side. You can just
bar the finger down flat.
I was just curious how other players practice this chord shape when
not playing it at the first fret near the nut.
